School Reopening

Dear TSS Community

I have just emailed our staff to inform them that we are officially open for business tomorrow. This is only possible thanks to the tireless efforts of our Maintenance and Grounds teams, who have worked hard to ensure that our campuses are safe for both students and staff now that power has been restored to both campuses.

The biggest challenge we face right now is that some boundary traffic lights are still not fully operational. Please take extra care during drop-off and pick-up tomorrow, and don't be alarmed if you see a police presence around our boundaries. They will be assisting us with traffic flow and management between 7:45 and 8:45 AM, for which we are very grateful.

Some important points to note for tomorrow, Wednesday March 12:

  1. Preschool and Prep School will have a normal school day as per the calendar and normal routine, but the Senior School will begin with a short assembly in the Annand Theatre.
  2. NAPLAN at TSS has been delayed. We will provide further updates as we hear more from the QCAA.
  3. Cocurricular activities at the Prep School will proceed according to the normal Wednesday routine. For the Senior Campus, cocurricular activities will depend on the individual activity, so please monitor SouthPortal and SOCS for updates on Wednesday Term 1 activities and training.
  4. The bus run servicing the northern end of the Gold Coast will be in operation tomorrow.
  5. Our Goondiwindi bus will return this evening and, if roads reopen today, we will have our Roma bus returning tomorrow. This will be an important milestone to have every student back at school safely.

Looking ahead, GPS Swimming will take place on Thursday with spectators at the venue. Junior GPS Swimming will begin at 11:00 AM, and the Senior Carnival will take place at 3:00 PM at Chandler Stadium. We are still awaiting updates on Cricket, Debating, and Rowing, and decisions will be made in the coming days.

Thank you for your patience as we recover from the recent weather event. It has been a real team effort by our staff to get everything up and running, and I have never been prouder to be part of such a great school. I am incredibly grateful to be part of this wonderful community.

Kind regards,

Andrew Hawkins
